Papageno Effect

The Papageno Effect is the opposite of the Werther Effect. It refers to the idea that media can play a protective role in preventing suicide by showing constructive ways of dealing with crises. The term comes from the character Papageno in Mozart’s opera “The Magic Flute” (1791).

The Papageno Effect highlights the importance of responsible media reporting on suicide, which can have a positive impact by:

1. Highlighting stories of individuals who have found ways to cope with suicidal thoughts or difficult life situations.
2. Offering resources and information on how to get help.
3. Emphasizing that there are alternatives to suicide and that crises are temporary.

The Papageno Effect suggests that media can help reduce suicide rates by promoting resilience, hope, and effective coping strategies.

Werther Effect

The Werther Effect is a term used in psychology, which refers to the phenomenon where media reports on suicide can lead to an increase in suicide rates, particularly through imitation. It is named after the protagonist of “The Sorrows of Young Werther” (1774) by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

The term was coined by sociologist David Phillips in the 1970s to describe the contagious nature of suicide, where sensational or romanticized portrayals of suicide in the media could inspire vulnerable individuals to take their own lives in a similar manner. Key characteristics of media reports that contribute to the Werther Effect include:

1. Excessive or sensationalist coverage of the method of suicide.
2. Glamorizing the individual who died by suicide or their reasons for it.
3. Failing to mention mental health resources or alternatives to suicide.

For the opposite of the Werther Effect: Papageno Effect.

GTA 6

GTA 6 is coming in 2025. The trailer and especially Vice City looks amazing. Everyone is hyped, that’s for sure.

DINKS

Honestly, never heard of this before, until I saw a random video from two peeps who were extremely excited about being a DINK. It stands for Double Income, No Kids and they were defending this as being able to go to a football game, being invited to family events and having dinner whenever they want.

Alright.

fudgel

Fudgel is an old 18th century English word with the following meaning: to pretend to work while actually doing nothing and being unproductive.

tradwife

Tradwife is a word I just found out about. It is, apparently, another word for ‘traditional wife’. It basically means that there are women out there who would love to live like we are in the fifties (so: not working, just being a housewife).

Jackdaw’s Rest quest

Jackdaw’s Rest quest is a quest in the Harry Potter game (Hogwarts Legacy) and it is truly one of the best quests ever. Very well done, except for the end (but I won’t give any spoilers).

KN Car

KN Car is, apparently, what people are Googling to eventually find out the name on the logo is Kia and not KN. So no, KN Car is not a brand; Kia is, though.

(see: Kia’s new logo)

Kia’s new logo

I mean: who decided to change the logo of Kia to this, should be fired. Come on: it reads as KN and everyone is Googling ‘KN Car’ to find which (nice looking) car that is.

What a fail from this nice company.
