The Bilbao-effect is the name for the effect that has appeared in Bilbao. This Spanish city asked architect Frank Gehry to build a building for their city so that the city would be attractive. Gehry did exactly that. He built the Guggenheim Museum, which opened in 1997. Since then, the building has lead to one million visitors every year to this Spanish city that was once considered as boring, but is now booming.
